Homecoming Service Project
This year, Marylhurst University’s Homecoming service project is to collect donations for the Oregon Food Bank. During Homecoming Week on campus, we collected 111 pounds of food and $160 in cash contributions for this worthy cause. Last year, the Oregon Food Bank network moved 66.2 million pounds of food!
The Oregon Food Bank works to address the root causes of hunger through many programs including Advocacy, the Learning Garden and the Nutrition Education programs. More low-income families received food stamps thanks to the concerted outreach by Oregon Food Bank staff, volunteers and partner organizations.
Last year, 36% of the people receiving emergency food were children. Each month, an estimated 240,000 people, including 86,400 children, ate meals from an emergency food box. In addition, soup kitchens and shelters distributed 3.8 million meals.
For more information about the cause, check out this video. These stories represent a few of the thousands of Oregonians who are forced to make impossible choices between feeding their families and seeking family care.
Be a part of this school-wide effort by donating food or funds directly to the Oregon Food Bank in the name of Marylhurst, or find your local food bank and make a donation.
