Graduate business program offers online degree for working managers with the goal to run a sustainable business
Marylhurst University is nearing the end of its first full year of offering a Green MBA online. Marylhurst is one of the first educational institutions to offer an MBA in Sustainability, and is also a pioneer in the e–learning realm by offering an accredited, 100-percent online master of business administration degree with a concentration in sustainable business. Within Marylhurst University’s MBA in Sustainability, students can choose to concentrate on renewable energy, government policy and administration, green development or natural and organic resources.
“Sustainability is a growing field,” said Alain Gracianette, chair of the MBA department at Marylhurst University. “Many companies now want to make positive contributions to a cleaner, healthier environment, but their executives lack the skills and understanding to put meaningful sustainable business practices into place.
“Sustainability has always been viewed as something that’s ‘nice’ but not cost–effective, so many businesses have stayed away from incorporating green techniques and technologies into their manufacturing, production and operational practices. As the environment changes and consumers become more vocal about green business practices, it’s becoming clear that sustainability does have a positive impact on the bottom line.”
Gracianette says that organizations are finding that customers want green options when it comes to products and services.
“They want to know that they’re doing their part to help the planet,” he added.
