Faculty Biographies

Chuck Anderson
Adjunct Faculty, Marylhurst University

Mr. Anderson has more than twenty two years of experience in the telecommunications industry, holding positions within sales management, product management, product development, strategic planning, and special projects. Most recently, he was Director for Communications and Planning in Customer Operations. Mr. Anderson has also worked for the American Red Cross in program management, product development, and direct service, and has been a volunteer for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). He received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Willamette University; he has also attended Garrett Seminary, Claremont School of Theology, UCLA Law School and Marylhurst University.

Derrick Calandrella, Ph.D.
Adjunct Faculty, Marylhurst University

Mr. Calandrella completed his Ph.D. in philosophy at Penn State University in May of 2001. In the years that followed he worked at colleges in York and Reading, Pennsylvania where he taught mostly introductory philosophy but also business ethics and organizational psychology. In 2003 he moved to Portland, Oregon, where he has continued teaching as an adjunct professor and has been working more recently as a contractor in a large corporation.

Fred Issacs
Adjunct Faculty, Marylhurst University

Mr. Isaacs has been an adjunct professor at Marylhurst for seven years, designing and teaching courses both on campus and online for both the graduate and undergraduate business departments at Marylhurst. He is an attorney and owner of Jurisconsult, LLC, a legal consulting firm devoted to arbitration, mediation, general business law, and federal civil appeals. His practice has focused largely on assisting other lawyers with complex federal appeals, primarily in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and, to a lesser extent, before the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. Isaacs is a member of the Indiana and Oregon State Bars as well as the Bars of the Supreme Court of the United States; the United States Courts of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Seventh, and Ninth Circuits; and the United States District Courts for the District of Oregon and both the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana. Mr. Isaacs holds degrees from the University of the State of New York, Ball State University, and the University of Notre Dame.

Cora Lonning
Adjunct Faculty, Marylhurst University

Ms. Lonning earned both her Bachelor of Arts in Communication, with a focus on Training & Development, and her MBA in Organizational Effectiveness from Marylhurst University. After graduating, Ms. Lonning spent several years as an independent consultant working with executive leaders to improve their communication and leadership skills with a focus on coaching leaders to develop their emotional management and communicative effectiveness. She currently works with HOLT Development Services, developing and implementing Values-Driven Cultures. In addition to providing training and coaching, Cora also designs curriculum to improve delivery and outcomes.

Larry Morris
Adjunct Faculty, Marylhurst University

Mr. Morris is an attorney and has served for fourteen years as a judicial law clerk for the Indiana Court of Appeals, with the past eleven years as Senior Judicial Attorney for the Hon. Ezra H. Friedlander. His responsibilities included administrative duties and assisting the judge in researching and drafting legal documents and opinions. Mr. Morris is a member of the Indiana State Bar, and is also admitted to practice before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States District Courts for both the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana. He has an undergraduate degree from Lincoln Christian College, a master's degree from the University of Illinois-Springfield, and a law degree from Indiana University-Indianapolis.

JoDee Phillips
Adjunct Faculty, Marylhurst University

Ms. Phillips currently teaches Mathematics for Marylhurst University, including Business Math and Intermediate Algebra. She also teaches Mathematics at Central Oregon Community College, Business Mathematics at Berkeley College, and Mathematics at Galen College of Nursing. Ms. Phillips has been in business for over twenty years working in diverse industries using mathematics, finance and statistics. She received a Bachelor of Science from Marylhurst University and a MBA from Illinois State University. As a Mathematics instructor, she works to deepen her students’ understanding of mathematics by combining prior ideas and tools they have already learned with newer concepts.

Eileen Schiffer
Adjunct Faculty, Marylhurst University

Ms. Schiffer has been a career counselor and corporate trainer for nearly twenty years and is passionate about helping her clients realize their career and life goals. She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Masters of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with a minor in Organizational Communications. Ms. Schiffer has worked in a career planning function at several Fortune 100 companies, developing and facilitating career management workshops, counseling individuals in their goal setting processes, and implementing skills inventory and management succession programs. Currently, she works for an international career services firm, assisting individuals who are in career transition due to corporate downsizing, by using self assessments, including: recognition of transferable skills and personal motivations, marketing plans, networking and communication skills, and interviewing preparation. She also teaches graduate and undergraduate Business, Psychology, and Career Development classes on campus and online for several universities.

Kimberly Steele
Adjunct Faculty, Marylhurst University

Ms. Steele received a Master of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. Yet, she remains a true Husky Fan, as she also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (majoring in Finance) from the University of Washington. Ms. Steele spent many years in banking, and also attended The School of Bank Marketing, which is administered through the Bank Marketing Association and graduated with distinction. Professionally, she has worked in the banking, high-tech, marketing and education industries. She has had the opportunity to wear many hats including Director of Marketing, Director of Client Services, AVP of Quality Service, Project Manager, Sales Manager and Loan Officer. She has also worked abroad for four years and has had the experience of traveling through a significant portion of Asia as well as visiting Europe.

David Tucker
Adjunct Faculty, Marylhurst University

Mr. Tucker worked as an accountant and financial manager before teaching on a collegiate level. After graduating from college with a degree in accounting, he worked for Arthur Andersen in Dallas, spending two years in the audit department passing the CPA exam. He then moved to Washington, DC, and obtained a Master of Arts in Economics from Georgetown University and a PhD in Economics from the University of Arkansas. Mr. Tucker taught for 15 years at Harding University, and in 1997 moved to Portland, Oregon, to teach for Cascade College. He also started teaching for the University of Phoenix in 1999 and in 2000, was named to the position of Director of Academic Affairs.

Jeff Weiss
Adjunct Faculty, Marylhurst University

Mr. Weiss is an experienced Information Systems and Management consultant and College instructor. He has worked in several industries over his 25 year career in Information Technology, and the last 15 years in Senior IT leadership positions for companies in the Portland area such as Rodda Paint and Décor, Platt Electric Supply and the Sonus Hearing Corporation. Prior to starting his own consulting business in 2002 he was the CIO and Vice President for Sonus, the largest hearing aid retailer in the U.S. Mr. Weiss holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and an MBA degree from the University of Oregon. He has instructed college students in Business Management and IT Strategy classes for over five years at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Mr. Weiss received the ‘Transformational Leadership’ Award from the Marylhurst College of Business in 2005 for his continued contribution in the excellence of the Marylhurst educational experience. Mr. Weiss has been invited to speak at several conferences on the topic of Strategic IT Implementation.
