Catering company plans green weddings

Entrepreneurs who wish to start an innovative venture that incorporates sustainable business practices may be able to gain the education they require from a green MBA program.

Savory and Sweet Catering is an example of a San Francisco Bay Area company that has tapped into the interest brides have in an environmentally friendly wedding day. The business provides advice and helps organize green ceremonies.

Following four years as a Green Certified business in the county of Santa Clara, Savory and Sweet has been approved for membership in the Green Guide Directory. In addition, the catering company has been honored with awards from the California Resources Board.

"We believe that we owe it to the next generation to lead other businesses in an effort to use our resources wisely," said Leanne Pomellitto, of Savory and Sweet. "As a full-service catering company, we emphasize the use of china and silverware over disposable items, and use compostable items when paperware is necessary."

Pomellitto added that the company's facility uses biodegradable chemicals for its kitchen and laundry cleaning.
