Channel 18 News, a station based in Wisconsin, reports that the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce has awarded two local companies with the title of Green Sustainable Business. According to the media outlet, this is part of the organization's efforts to encourage the development of sustainable business practices in the region.
The By Design Group and Werner Electric are the two most recent additions to the Chamber of Commerce's list of green businesses. There are currently 61 companies, all of which employ between 18 and 5000 workers, that have been given this prestigious designation. According to the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce's website, this initiative first began in February 2010.
Businesses in the region are judged on seven different sustainable factors, reports WEAU.com. The areas in which companies are evaluated include energy conservation, purchasing, recycling, transportation, social capital, waste prevention and water conservation. In order to be declared a Green Business, an organization must score at least 40 points in five of seven categories if it is a small company, and 60 points in all seven if it is large.
