Washington homebuilder wins award

Quadrant Homes, a homebuilding firm in Washington, has won the 2011 Eastside Sustainable Business Award from the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce for its Living Sound program.

Since it was launched five years ago, Living Sound has worked to help Quadrant integrate ideas of sustainability into both its operations and its community profile. Some of the company's efforts over the past decade include partnerships with land conservation trusts, meeting Northwest Energy Star specifications in all new homes, cutting waste management costs by half and adopting an employee-led sustainability roadmap for its business practices through 2025.

In addition to the honor from the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, Quadrant Homes has won the Built Green Large Builder Award and the Association of Washington Business Environmental Award.

"It is a true honor to be nominated along with the other admirable Eastside businesses," said Mark Gray, the company's executive vice president and chief operating officer. "We're proud of our employees and business partners for all of their efforts toward sustainability. We hold ourselves to the highest standard, looking for every opportunity throughout the building process to minimize impact on the environment, while encouraging our partners, vendors and homeowners to do the same."
